Peter Klashorst is known for his striking and riotous lifestyle, which is certainly reflected in his art. He has introduced a new artists' movement called 'De Nieuwe Wilden'. Where powerful, expressive colours, just like in the style Fauvism, are central. Klashorst is therefore regularly compared with famous painting Paul Gaugain. Not only because of their matching style, but also because of their similar mentality. Klashorst has travelled as well from Europe to exotic Africa with romantic ideas and expectations. Both artists liked to create works of art about the sensuality and sexuality of young women. These images are perceived as obscene in some countries. Because of this profanity, Klashorst was arrested in Senegal for painting naked African women, which resulted in international fame.
