Ada Breedveld started exhibiting in the 70s. Surrealism - the art movement in which fantasy instead of reality is the starting point of art  - was of particular interest for her. Ada says:

“The brush is an extension of my emotional life. This allows me to express myself in the most optimal way. The material gives me the challenge to create a world that awakens the illusion of reality. A reality that does not really exist, but is experienced as such. As in a dream, the unreal is experienced as real.”

Gradually she developed her own painting style. Ada is best known for her colourful paintings in which the woman is central. She mainly depicts voluminous smiling women. These women find themselves in a varied decor of decorative patterns. Flowers, birds, fish, etc. are motifs that symbolize sexual strength, vitality and growth. Ada depicts the woman as the ultimate ‘bon vivant’ and as the ultimate fertility symbol.
